Eco-friendly Richmond County boy in running for national award

Most parents get upset when kids leave garbage in their vehicle, but for the MacNeils, who live in this Richmond County community, waste in the family van is a sign of their seven-year-old son’s compassion. “He’s the kind of kid who gets really upset with litter. My van ends up full of garbage because if he’s out somewhere he always picks up garbage. So I’m always cleaning out my van,” said Laurie MacNeil of her son Breton. A Grade 2 student at Felix Marchand Elementary School in Louisdale, Breton has a fascination with protecting the planet and its creatures. That interest has now landed him a spot as regional finalist for the Sunlight Eco-Action Kids Awards.
