Justin Skinner: The Parkdale Liberty Villager
Having already made a name for himself in the world of finance, Ron Dembo decided to focus more on a field in which he could make a more lasting impact, ironically by trying to reduce the impact that others have on Mother Nature.
Dembo is the founder and CEO of Zerofootprint, a worldwide not-for-profit that helps individuals, organizations and companies measure and reduce their carbon footprint.
While Dembo’s academic and professional background would not seem to point to ecological matters – his areas of expertise spanned finance, computer science and mathematics – he saw an opportunity to help bring about greater change in the world at large.
He was able to take his existing talents and put them toward creating a metric that would help determine what sort of impact people and groups were having on the environment and using that information to launch Parkdale-based Zerofootprint in June 2005.
